BROOKLINE, Mass. - Nighthawks senior Destiny Spears (Arnold, Md.) was voted the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in 2017-18, making her the Nighthawk of the Week.

Spears was a top-10 player in nearly every statistical category in the NECC. In 16 NECC games, Spears was fourth in the NECC in scoring average (15.4), eighth in rebounding average (10.0), first in steals (74), third in assists (46), second in field goals made (105), and fourth in minutes (573).

Spears finishes her career as the program's All-Time Leading Scorer with 1,437 points and is one of two players all-time to finish with at least 1,000 rebounds, as she collected 1,017 boards.

The Nighthawks improved by 10 wins from the 2016-17 and 2017-18 season, the biggest jump among all NECC teams. Newbury will remain a favorite to claim their first-ever NECC Championship next season, but Spears will leave a hole for the Nighthawks as they look forward to 2018-19.
