BROOKLINE, Mass. - Nighthawks freshman Twalesha Montague (Hartford, Conn.) broke a 0-0 tie in the 80th minute for the women's soccer team, leading the Nighthawks to their first win of the season, a 1-0 score over Anna Maria, resulting in Montague being named Nighthawk Student-Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on September 9.
The Nighthawks broke the scoreless game after the AMCATS turned the ball over in their defensive third of the field. Junior Amanda Cardoso took the turnover, dribbled down the right side of the field and sent a cross in that was settled by Montague. The first-year forward took a touch to her right to create space and struck a shot from 10 yards out, beating the outstretched Anna Maria goalkeeper.
The goal was Montague's first of the season and first game-winning tally of 2018.
The Nighthawks play a pair of games this week, starting on Wednesday as Newbury hosts Emmanuel for a 3:30 p.m. start. The Nighthawks then open up New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday as they head to Bay Path for a 1:00 p.m. kick.
