BOSTON, Mass. - The Nighthawks participated in their final race of the season before the New England Collegiate Conference Championships on Friday afternoon, running the Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park. The women's race consisted of a 5k run while the men were required to do an 8k.
Nighthawks sophomore Hamido Hassan (Lewiston, Maine) was the Nighthawks top finisher in the women's race with a time of 23:48, just shy of a new personal record. Freshman Shakira Henriquez (Haverhill, Mass.) was just behind with a time of 24:09, a personal best. Freshman Averie Greeley (Ledyard, Conn.) was next for the Nighthawks with a time of 24:30, also a personal record.
On the men's side, sophomore Geralson Withrow (Mystic, Conn.) ran the Nighthawks best time in the 8k, finishing with a time of 29:35. Freshmen Anthony Crocco (Trumbull, Conn.) and Joan Guzman (Nantucket, Mass.) finished with times of 33:29 and 33:40, respectively. Both times by the freshmen are personal bests.
The Newbury women finished 14th overall, but second among the NECC teams racing. The men also finished 14th and second among NECC teams. In both the men's and women's races, Mitchell College finished ahead of the Nighthawks by one position.
Two weeks off for the Nighthawks until the NECC Championship race on Oct. 27. The race will be held in Westfield, Mass.
