CHICOPEE, Mass. - For the women's runners junior Naomi Ricciotti (Phoenix, Ariz.) and the men's Tim Brown (Orange, Conn.) topped the Nighthawks runners en route to a ninth place finish for the women, and fifth place finish for the men, in Elms College Invitational on Saturday morning at Chicopee State Park.
In the women's race, Ricciotti finished the 6k course in 32:34. Teammate Samantha Libby (New Gloucester, Maine) finsihed just behind her, finishing the 6k in 32:56. The Nighthawks finished with 239 points in their ninth place result. the University of St. Joesph's took the top spot in the meet with 63 points, holding off Johnson and Wales who finished with 65 points.
In the men's 8k race, Brown ran his near five-miles in 34:04, pacing at 6:52 per mile. Joshua Oliver (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished in a time of 34:55, good for a 7:02 mile. The men's cross country team finished with 134 points, good for fifth place. Johnson and Wales won the men's side of the 8k, totaling 26 points.
Both teams will continue with a race next week at Mass Maritine Acadamy in the Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational. The women will race a 5k, while the men's team will race an 8k for the second time in as many weeks. The women's race is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., the men's race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
