HOLYOKE, Mass.- Junior middle hitter Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) became just the second Newbury College women's volleyball player to reach the 1,000th kill plateau in a 3-0 victory over Bay Path University, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Saturday afternoon.
The Nighthawks won in three straight games 25-15, 25-13 and 25-12. Banks reached the milestone during the second set while
Banks had a stellar match hitting an astounding .786 for the match leading all players with 12 kills. She added three service aces. Junior right side hitter Kataya Sykes (Brockton, Mass.) wasn't far behind with 10 kills hitting .400 for the match. Junior defensive specialist Gabby Aldaco (Springdale, Ariz.) led the way defensively with 12 digs.
Haylette concluded her home career topping Bay Path defensively with seven digs. She had a .300 attack percentage as well. Sophomore outside hitterLauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn) had seven kills for the contest. Junior setter/right side Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) tallied 15 assists.
The Nighthawks close out the season at 15-10 and 6-2 in conference play. They will wait to find out who they will host in the first round the the 2015 NECC Championship Tournament on Tuesday evening November 3rd.
