BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Newbury College Athletic Department announced today that Head Women's Soccer Coach and Senior Woman Administrator Lindsey Garvey is stepping down from her position to accept the same positions at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass.
Garvey, who has served as the head coach for the past two seasons, came onboard in March 2017 as the second full-time women's soccer head coach in the history of the program. Garvey was named SWA this June and has fulfilled the responsibility of that role for the past five months.
"Working under the leadership of Jonathan Harper and alongside my dedicated colleagues within the Newbury Athletics department has truly been an honor," said Garvey. "I am grateful for their continued support and the incredible student-athletes I had the opportunity to coach these last two seasons."
In the two seasons under Garvey, the Nighthawks made the playoffs in 2017 and placed two players on the All-New England Collegiate Conference Teams. Class of 2018 graduate Shannon Walsh was a second-team forward in 2017 and junior Amanda Cardoso was named to the All-NECC Third Team as a midfielder this season.
"I would like to thank Coach Garvey for her leadership of our women's soccer program. I am proud that her coaching career began at Newbury and will continue to flourish at all of her future opportunities," said Harper. "Over the past year, Coach Garvey was an instrumental voice in her role as Senior Woman Administrator assisting in many key areas of our operations. Lindsey is a talented coach and administrator that will be missed by her colleagues in the Newbury Department of Athletics."
As it stands, the Nighthawks would only lose one player off their roster from last season.
"Newbury women's soccer has made an amazing impact on my life," said Garvey. "I am confident in their future success and the direction of the program."
A search for Garvey's replacement will begin immediately.
