Cardoso Named Third-Team All-NECC, Cuevas All-Sportsmanship Team

MARSHFIELD, MASS. - Nighthawks junior Amanda Cardoso (Watertown, Mass.) was named to the New England Collegiate Conference Third-Team in the midfield, as voted by the head coaches in the conference and announced by the NECC Office on Friday afternoon. Cardoso was a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team a season ago for the Nighthawks.

Freshman Gabbriella Cuevas (West Valley City, Utah) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team this season for the Newbury.

Cardoso finished the season with one goal and one assist, totaling three points, but her effort and athletism in the midfield are what caught many of the voter's eyes.

Cuevas started all but one match for the Nighthawks, finishing the season with one assist on the Nighthawks back line.

Lesley Lynx senior defender McKenna Straube was named the NECC Player of the Year, earning the honor for a team that allowed no goals in nine conference games and finished the season 13-4 (9-0 NECC).

New England College goalie Kayla Pugliese earned NECC Goalie of the Year for the Pilgrims. Pugliese allowed just 0.48 goals in nine conference games while the Pilgrims went 7-1-1 in their first season in the conference.

Two more honors for Lesley as freshman Sophie Smurthwaite was named Rookie of the Year and head coach Paul Vasconcelos was named Coach of the Year for a record eighth time.
