PAXTON, Mass. - Nighthawks freshman Twalesha Montague (Hartford, Conn.) scored her first career college goal with 10 minutes remaining, a tally that held as the game-winning goal, helping secure the first victory of the season as the Newbury Nighthawks defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS 1-0 on Friday afternoon at AMCATS Field in non-conference play.

Nighthawks senior Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass.) secured her first clean sheet since 2016, adding to her program-record total of six career shutouts.

Despite numerous chances throughout the game, it took 80 minutes to break the 0-0 tie. Starting with an AMCATS turnover, Nighthawks junior Amanda Cardoso (Watertown, Mass.) dribbled down the right sideline before crossing into the box. Montague settled the cross, made a slight touch to the right to create room and converted into the top right corner to give the Nighthawks the 1-0 lead.

Sass made five saves on the afternoon, improving to 1-2 this season. AMCATS freshman Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) made seven saves but falls to 0-2.

The Nighthawks move to 1-2 with the win and return to action on Sunday with a road game at Northern Vermont at Johnson State, scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
