COBLESKILL, N.Y. - Fighting Tigers sophomore Addy Lawson (Milford, N.Y.) and freshman Rebecca Bruno (Middleburgh, N.Y) both scored a pair of goals and each added an assist as SUNY Cobleskill defeated the Newbury Nighthawks 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers broke through in the 14th minute when a deflection landed for Bruno, netting her first goal of the season and giving Cobleskill a 1-0 lead.
Cobleskill doubled the lead in the 37th minute on Lawson's first goal of her season. Lawson found herself behind the Nighthawks defense on a through pass and converted her breakaway for a 2-0 lead.
The Fighting Tigers added three more in the second half including a pair of goals in the 53rd and 54th minutes to lead 4-0 at the time. Bruno scored her second of the day in the 79th minute on the way to the final of 5-0.
Fighting Tigers freshman Abigail Wetsel (Schoharie, N.Y.) made three saves in the win. Nighthawks senior Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass.) made 20 saves on the afternoon.
Cobleskill moves to 2-0 on the season while the Nighthawks fall to 0-2. Newbury returns to action on Friday afternoon as they welcome Anna Maria College for a 3:30 p.m. kick.
