Nighthawks Fall at Elms in Conference Play Saturday

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms sophomore Haley Richard (Monson, Mass.) scored a game-high six goals, including five in the first half, leading the Blazers to a 19-5 Senior Day win over the Newbury Nighthawks on Saturday afternoon at Leary Field in New England Collegiate Conference play.

Blazers junior Vanessa Vurno (Salem, Conn.) added five goals, including a natural hat trick in 1:11 in the first half. Victoria-Lynn Smith (Somers, Conn.) and Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) each added three goals.

Nighthawks freshman Venezia Delgadillo (Sharon, Mass.) scored a hat trick. Freshmen Sophia Kiasi (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and Hannah Gorham (Lyman, Maine) each added a goal.

With a slim 3-2 lead 10 minutes into the contest, the Blazers rattled off a dozen unanswered goals to build a 15-2 halftime advantage.

The Blazers outscored the Nighthawks 4-3 in the second half with all three goals for Newbury scored by Delgadillo.

Blazers freshman Emily Huber (Jefferson, Maine) takes the win, making two stops and improving to 5-8. Nighthawks sophomore goalkeeper Keely Molloy (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with 15 saves in the game, falling to 2-9 with the loss.

The Nighthawks return on Tuesday in their final home game of the regular season as they welcome Wheelock College to Hormel Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff.
