SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After being named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, Nighthawks sophomore Jaymesha Sanders (West Haven, Conn.) has added the New England Women's Basketball Association Player of the Week Award to her weekly resumé.
Sanders posted a trio of double-doubles while averaging 24.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Nighthawks.
After recording 12 points and 10 boards in Tuesday's 56-37 win at Bay Path, she broke Newbury's program scoring record with a 38-point, 18-rebound, 3-steal performance on Thursday in a 79-60 victory over Elms.
Sanders capped her week with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists on Saturday as the Nighthawks fell on the road to New England College, 82-72. Sanders shot 56.6 percent from the field for the week.
Sanders was a three-time Rookie of the Week last season and was named to the NEWBA All-Rookie Team for the 2017-18 season. This is her first NEWBA Player of the Week Award of her career.
The Nighthawks have a pair of games to finish the regular season. Newbury travels to Dean on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. game followed by the finale on Saturday at Eastern Nazarene at 1:00 p.m.
