LEICESTER, Mass. - The Becker Hawks outscored the Newbury Nighthawks 23-8 in the third quarter, creating all the room they would need in a 66-54 victory on Tuesday night at Leicester Gym in New England Collegiate Conference play.
Hawks senior Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 points, including becoming the eighth player in Becker Women's Basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. Senior Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) filled the stat-line with 10 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals. Junior Cassidy Harrison (Foxborough, Mass.) finished with 12 points.
Nighthawks senior Savannah Olsen (Battle Creek, Mich.) finished with a game-high 19 points and 17 rebounds. Freshman Jada Gee (Springfield, Mass.) added 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Sophomore Tatianna Occena (Spring Valley, N.Y.) had nine points.
The Nighthawks led by three heading to the second half and led by as many as six after Occena hit a three-pointer to open the third quarter. Following the Occena three to lead 33-27, the Hawks used runs of 13-2 and 8-0 to flip the script and lead by a dozen at the end of the third, 50-38.
Becker shot 11-of-18 from the field in the third while holding the Nighthawks to 3-for-10 shooting.
Newbury could only get as close as nine in the final quarter, as Becker sweeps the season series with a 66-54 win.
The win moves Becker to 12-5 (10-1 NECC) while the loss drops the Nighthawks to 6-11 (4-6 NECC).
Newbury looks to get back in the win column on Saturday as they celebrate Senior Day with a 1:00 p.m. tip vs. Lesley at Pappas Gymnasium.
