BROOKLINE, Mass. - Pilgrims juniors Rene Hudson (Gallatin, Tenn.) and Daleia Boutwell (Dorchester, Mass.) each scored 13 points, leading New England College to a 71-53 victory over the Newbury Nighthawks on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference play.
Hudson added four rebounds and two assists. Boutwell finished with eight rebounds off the bench. Freshman Kayla Goldring (Hollywood, Md.) finished with six points, ten rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.
Nighthawks sophomore Jaymesha Sanders (West Haven, Conn.) finished with a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Jada Gee (Springfield, Mass.) added 11 points off the bench in a career-high 34 minutes.
New England used a 13-2 run in the second quarter to hold a six-point lead heading to halftime, 36-30.
The Pilgrims extended their lead in the third, holding the Nighthawks to just nine points in the quarter. New England closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 52-39.
New England led by as many as 23 in the fourth en route to their third straight win, a 71-53 victory.
The win moves the Pilgrims to 6-7 (5-2 NECC) while the loss drops Newbury to 5-9 (3-5 NECC).
Both sides continue their season on Tuesday. The Nighthawks host Dean College while New England travels to Elms. Both games tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
