BROOKLINE, Mass. – The defending New England Collegiate Conference Regular Season Champions are just under a week from returning to the floor for the 2018-19 season.
Nighthawks Head Coach Marc Taney returns several players from last season's roster and matches those returners with a group of talented recruits to take on the season.
The schedule starts on Nov. 9 with the Nighthawks participating in the Keene State Owls Tip-Off Tournament. Newbury faces Maine Maritime Academy at 5:30 p.m. and will move on to face either Keene State or Anna Maria the next day in the Championship or Consolation Game.
A week later on Nov. 17, the Nighthawks travel to UMaine – Farmington for a 2:00 p.m. game.
With the addition of New England College and Eastern Nazarene College to the NECC, the conference schedule begins earlier than ever. Opening Night at home will be played in the NECC against the Eastern Nazarene Lions on Nov. 20 at 5:00 p.m.
Five more conference games before the break, starting with a trip to Lesley on Nov. 27, followed by two consecutive home games on Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 against Bay Path and Southern Vermont, respectively.
The Nighthawks hit the road on Dec. 5 for a trip to Mitchell and play their last match before Winter Break on Friday, Dec. 7 against Becker at 7:00 p.m.
The season continues with the Springfield College Tournament on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The Nighthawks open the tournament facing Vassar College at 3:00 p.m. and depending on the outcome, the Nighthawks will either face Springfield College or Bates College in the Championship or Consolation Game.
Following the Springfield Tournament, the Nighthawks are back home, hosting Norwich University on Jan. 5 at 3:00 p.m.
The conference schedule returns on Jan. 10 with the Nighthawks traveling to Elms College for a 7:00 p.m. game, followed by a pair of home conference games on Jan. 12 and Jan. 15 against New England College and Dean College, respectively.
The final non-conference game of the Nighthawks season comes on Jan. 17 with Newbury traveling to Emmanuel for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
Newbury finished the season with nine straight NECC games, starting on the road at Becker on Jan. 22 at 6:00 p.m.
Lesley and Mitchell travel to Pappas Gymnasium for the next two games on Jan. 26 and Jan. 29, respectively. The Nighthawks play the Lynx at 1:00 p.m. and the Mariners at 7:00 p.m.
February starts with back-to-back road games for the Nighthawks. On Feb. 2, Newbury travels to Southern Vermont for a 1:00 p.m. tip, followed by a Feb. 5 meeting with Bay Path at 8:00 p.m.
The Nighthawks final regular season home game comes on Feb. 7 against Elms at 7:00 p.m. at Pappas Gym.
Newbury wraps up the season with three on the road, starting on Feb. 9 at New England College at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 7:00 p.m. tip at Dean on Feb. 12, then the season finale on Feb. 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Eastern Nazarene.
The NECC Playoffs begin on Feb. 19 with the top-eight teams qualifying for a chance at the Championship.
