Sass Named Division III Second-Team Preseason All-American by Fastpitch News

CULVER CITY, Calif. - For the third consecutive season, Nighthawks now-senior Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass.) has been named a Division III Preseason All-American by Fastpitch News. It's her second consecutive nomination to the Preseason All-American Second Team, after being named to the same team in the 2018 preseason. Sass was named to the First-Team in the preseason of 2017, following her freshman year.

Last season was another record-breaking year for Sass as she began claiming several spots in the Newbury and New England Collegiate Conference record books.

Finishing the season hitting .444, Sass claimed the NECC Player of the Year Award from the conference. She finished the season with 52 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, and 10 home runs.

"It's an honor to have been named to this in all three seasons I was eligible," said Sass. "It's a huge testament to all the girls I've played with on this team and the coaches that I have had. It's not only a great milestone for me but for the entire Newbury College Softball Program."

Sass is the only player in program history with 100 hits, 100 runs scored, and 100 RBIs in her career. Her 30 career home runs are not just most in the program's history, but also the most of any player in NECC history.

In 2018 and in all of Division III, Sass ranked 7th in runs per game (1.37), 14th in on-base percentage (0.561), and 16th in slugging percentage (0.863).

Over her first three seasons with Newbury, Sass has her name in 21 different spots in the program records spanning 18 different categories.

Sass begins the season 42 hits away from claiming the most hits in program history and 50 hits away from reaching 200 career hits. Sass is also 27 runs shy of overtaking the program record for most runs scored in a career.

"(This season) will take a lot of hard work and determination," said Sass. "But, I trust that everyone is going to give 100 percent and we're just getting ready for Florida and we're going to grind as hard as we can."

Familiar names Jordan Day (Lesley) and Elisabeth Schaffer (Eastern Nazarene) joined Sass as the only three from the NECC named to the FPN Preseason All-American teams.

The Nighthawks finished 17-21 last season and look for a run to the title in their final season in 2019. Newbury begins their season in Florida on March 10 with an 11:45 a.m. game vs. North Park University.
