ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Senior centerfield Sheri Liggiero (Tewksbury, Mass.) and first year right-hander Alina Milauskas (Elkridge, Md.) swept the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player and Rookie of the Week honors, announced Monday afternoon.
Over the course of the five-game week, Liggiero hit .438 (7-16) while posting a staggering 1.009 OPS (.571 OBP, .438 SLG%) from the top of the Nighthawk line-up. She closed out the five-game week registering her 40th and 41st career stolen bases against Wesleyan College and Wesley College, respectively, last Thursday afternoon and is currently three steals shy of becoming the program's all-time career leader in steals. Additionally, Liggiero recorded a two-to-one walk-to-strikeout ratio while reaching base safely in all six games including registering a five-game hitting streak in the Nighthawks first give games of he the season.
For the second straight week, Milauskas earned recognition from the conference, being selected as the NECC Rookie of the Week posting a 2-2 record on the rubber while helping her own cause hitting .500 (6-12) at the plate. The Maryland native closed out the five game week on a three-game hitting streak which included going three-for-four with a double and an RBI in a 9-7 seventh inning come-from-behind victory against New England College last Wednesday.
