The Nighthawks participated in their final race of the season before the New England Collegiate Conference Championships on Friday afternoon, running the Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park. The women's race consisted of a 5k run while the men were required to do an 8k.
Nighthawks sophomore Geralson Withrow (Mystic, Conn.) had his best finish of the 2018 season, finishing in third place, running his 8k in 30:16.5 in the Community College of Rhode Island Tri-State Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Nighthawks Men's and Women's Cross Country teams participated in their second race of the season, with both teams recording a third-place finish in Saturday morning's Mitchell College Invitational 5k.
A trio of teams started their 2018 Cross Country campaigns on Friday morning, marking the earliest start to the season in Nighthawks history. Newbury, along with Suffolk and Lasell, competed in the Mini-Meet consisting of a 3k for the women and a 5k for the men.
Newbury College Men's Cross Country was voted to finish fourth in the New England Collegiate Conference as announced by the NECC Office today, determined by the eight head coaches of cross country in the NECC. The Nighthawks return the 2017 NECC Rookie of the Year Geralson Withrow to the team, who finished fourth in the NECC Championships last season with a time of 29:11.23. Withrow also earned First-Team All-Conference Honors with his finish.
After eight months of hard work and determination, Newbury College took Friday to recognize the accomplishments of many students in the annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony.
Westfield, Mass.- Newbury's Geralson Withrow (29:11.23) took home 2017 NECC Rookie of the Year honors after finishing fourth overall and first among rookie runners.
This is the 3rd time Withrow has earned ROW honors
