BOWDOIN, Maine - For the first time in program history, the men's and women's Nighthawks Cross Country teams competed in the NCAA New England Regional Championships. The New England Regional was hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday morning.
In the men's 8k race, Nighthawks sophomore Geralson Withrow (Mystic, Conn.) led the team in the 8k with a time of 30:54.3. Freshman Anthony Crocco (Trumbull, Conn.) was the next Nighthawk to finish. Crocco finished in a time of 32:41.6. Sophomore David Jean (Malden, Mass.) was next over the line with a time of 33:11.7. Freshman Joan Guzman (Nantucket, Mass.) was next with his time of 33:58.8. The Nighthawks final runner over the line, junior Nicholas Luciano (Vineland, N.J.), raced in a time of 36:56.6.
For the women's 6k run, Newbury sophomore Hamido Hassan (Lewiston, Maine) led the Nighthawks with a time of 28:07.9. Freshman Averie Greeley (Ledyard, Conn.) and sophomore Mary Jok (Lynn, Mass.) were close behind, finishing with times of 28:38.8 and 29:00.1, respectively. Next over the line for the Nighthawks was freshman Shakira Henriquez (Haverhill, Mass.), who raced her 6k in 29:38.5. The final Nighthawks runner to finish was junior Mallory Stefan (Thornton, Colo.) with her time of 31:06.1.
The historic season is complete for the Nighthawks, who finished the season with their best conference finishes for the men's and women's teams in program history, resulting in their qualifications for the New England Regional.
