BEVERLY, Mass. - Gulls senior Matt Bozek (Exeter, N.H.) finished his regular season career with a career-high 16 kills while hitting an impressive .444 from the floor as the No. 11 Endicott Gulls swept the Newbury Nighthawks 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-14) in straight sets on Endicott's Senior Day in the season finale of New England Collegiate Conference play.
Bozek added seven digs and an ace for Endicott. Senior Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) finished with eight kills on 12 attempts with one error to hit .583. Senior Devin Racey (Voorheesville, N.Y.) added six kills and 21 assists.
Nighthawks sophomore Rory Dobbins (Warwick, R.I.) led the Nighthawks with four kills. Sophomore Jeremias Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) added two kills and three aces. Sophomore Alvin Fernandes (Taunton, Mass.) finished with three kills.
The No. 11 Gulls combined to hit .462 from the floor in the match. In the opening set, Endicott combined for 12 team kills while hitting .450 from the floor in the 25-11 set win. In the second, Endicott used 14 team kills and a .478 hitting percentage to win the set 25-9. The Gulls capped the match with 13 team kills and a hitting percentage of .455 in the third set win of 25-14.
The win moves the Gulls to 23-6 (13-1 NECC) and gives them the No. 2 seed in the NECC Playoffs. The loss for the Nighthawks drops them to 7-18 (6-8 NECC), giving them the No. 5 seed in the NECC Postseason.
The Gulls await the winner of the No. 3 Nichols Bison vs. No. 6 Dean Bulldogs for the NECC Semifinal on Thursday. The Nighthawks travel to No. 4 Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday for the First Round of the NECC Playoffs.
