BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Lasell Lasers spread the wealth offensively finishing the night with four players with at least five kills as the Lasell College handed the Newbury Nighthawks a straight sets (25-16, 25-9, 25-9) loss on Friday evening in non-conference play.
Junior Scott Sterenburg (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished with a team-high seven kills. Sophomores Dillion DeSousa (Enfield, Conn.), Conor Leary-Watson (Bethany, N.Y.), and Greg Monteiro (New Bedford, Mass.) all added five kills. DeSousa added five aces and hit .714 from the floor on the night.
Nighthawks sophomore Rory Dobbins (Warwick, R.I.) finished with a team-high seven kills. Sophomore Alvin Fernandes (Taunton, Mass) added four kills. Sophomore Jeremias Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) had two aces and five digs while sophomore Geral Rivera-Miranda (Everett, Mass.) had a team-best seven digs.
In the opening set, the teams battled for early momentum with the Lasers ultimately taking an 11-10 lead. From that point, Lasell finished with a 14-6 run to win the opening set 25-16. The Lasers hit .346 with 12 team kills.
In the second, the Lasers were off and running with 16 of the sets first 21 points to lead 16-5. Lasell would cruise to a second set win 25-9, hitting a match-high .476 from the floor.
In the final set, Lasell used a closing run of 12-1 on their way to the straight sets win and third set win of 25-9. Lasell finished the third with 10 total kills and hit .368.
The win moves the Lasers to 5-6 while the Nighthawks fall to 3-9.
Newbury returns to conference play in their next match as they welcome Elms College to Pappas Gymnasium on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
