Fifth-Seeded Nighthawks Draw Lions for NECC Quarters

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Following a season at 4-8 in the New England Collegiate Conference, the Newbury Nighthawks have drawn the fifth-seed in the upcoming NECC Men's Volleyball Playoffs.

Sunday afternoon the NECC announced the six-team field taking part in the Men's Volleyball Playoffs, following the completion of the final match, earlier that day.

The Nighthawks will face fourth-seeded Eastern Nazarene College in the Opening Round. The Nighthawks and Lions have played twice this season, with both matches going five sets and both coming out in favor of the Lions.

In both matches, the Nighthawks held a lead with the opportunity to close out the Lions, but on both occasions, the Lions stormed back with a pair of 3-2 wins.

Endicott College finishes with an unblemished record of 12-0 to earn the top seed in the NECC Tournament. The defending champion Gulls earn a bye to the semifinals as they vie for their fifth straight NECC title.

Regis College earns the other bye to the semifinals and the second seed with an impressive 10-2 NECC regular season, hoping to avenge their semifinal loss from a season ago.

Hosting a first-round match is third-seeded Elms College who will face the sixth-seeded Southern Vermont College. The Blazers finished the season with a conference record of 8-4 while the Mountaineers completed the season with a 3-9 record. 

As for the Nighthawks and Lions, they too will battle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night at Lahue PE Center at Eastern Nazarene College.

The winners of the first round games will advance to the semifinals Thursday, April 13th. The semifinal winners will then face off in the NECC Championship on Saturday, April 15th at the highest remaining seed.

First Round – Tuesday, April 11th

Game 1: #5 Newbury College @ #4 Eastern Nazarene College 7:00 p.m.
Game 2: #6 Southern Vermont College @ #3 Elms College 7:00 p.m.

Semifinals – Thursday, April 13th

Game 3: Game 1 winner @ #1 Endicott College – 7:00p.m.
Game 4: Game 2 winner @ #2 Regis College – 6:00p.m.

Championship – Saturday, April 15th

Game 5: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner – TBA
