QUINCY, Mass.- The Newbury Nighthawks and Eastern Nazarene Lions battled for 110 minutes to a 1-1 draw at Creedon Field on Tuesday evening.
The Lions progress to 4-7-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). The Nighthawks move to 7-3-2 on the season and hang on to the top spot in the league standings with a 3-0-1 mark.
The visitors got on the board in the 21st minute to nab a 1-0 lead. Julius Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) poked in his third tally of the fall after a low cross sent into the box by Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Fla.).
The home side tied the game at 1-1 in the 40th minute. Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) buried his second goal of the season as he volleyed in a cross by Brock Pease (Marshfield, Mass.).
Eastern Nazarene recorded four first-half shots while Newbury produced six attempts.
The Nighthawks outshot the Lions 8-3 in the second stanza but neither squad found the back of the net as the contest went to overtime.
Eastern Nazarene registered the lone shot attempt in the first overtime period and Newbury fired the only shot in the second session as the match ended in a stalemate.
Rookie Florian Resch (St. Stefan, Austria) collected four saves on the night in his ninth start of the fall. Nighthawks Samuel Quinones (San Diego, Calif.) made three saves, moving to 3-0-1 this season.
The Nighthawks are unbeaten through the first four games of the conference season. The 3-0-1 record marks only the second time the Nighthawks started unbeaten in the first four games of the NECC schedule. The other occasion came in 2011 when the program started 4-0 in the conference.
The men's soccer program has never started unbeaten in the first five conference games in program history and will look to set that mark on Saturday as they travel to Dean College for a 3:00 p.m. match
