Winning Streak Comes to an End With 4-0 Loss at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Bears senior Greg Burnham scored a pair of goals for the Coast Guard Academy, leading to their 4-0 victory over the Newbury Nighthawks on Monday night in non-conference play. The Nighthawks loss breaks their five-game winning streak and marks their first loss since Sept. 8.

Burnham and the Bears broke through in the 69th minute off a corner kick. Sophomore Daniel Taglinetti served a perfect ball on the set piece. Burnham met the corner with a header, giving the Coast Guard Academy a 1-0 lead.

The Bears doubled the lead in the 75th minute with freshman Robbie Fugett scoring his second goal of the season off another corner kick. Fugett's header struck the crossbar, bounced down and in for the 2-0 lead.

Coast Guard added two more goals in the following five minutes, including Burnham's second goal of the match in the 77th minute.

Bears junior Dakota Harich made three saves in 82 minutes of play, earning the win to move to 3-4-1 this season. Nighthawks senior Jarrod Smith (Watertown, N.Y.) falls to 1-1-1 with the loss, making nine saves on the night.

The Nighthawks fall to 6-3-1 with the loss while the Bears move to 4-5-2 with the victory.

Newbury returns to conference play on Saturday, hosting Mitchell at 12:00 p.m. from Regis College Field. The Nighthawks will search for their first 3-0 start in the New England Collegiate Conference since 2015.
