GROTON, Conn. - The Newbury College men's golf team finished first in the four-team Mitchell College Invitational, Wednesday afternoon. Senior Danny Lumb (Stoneham, Mass.) earned co-medalist honors, along with Becker's Anthony Martinez, firing the day's low-round of an 83 at the Connecticut golf course.
Along with teammate Kevin Fitzpatrick (Milford, Conn.), Lumb led the 20-player field recording six pars and two birdies. Fitzpatrick, who finished the day seventh carding an 89, dominated the par fives finishing at even par on the three holes along with classmate, senior Anthony Bonelli (Narragansett, R.I.).
Recording a career-year on the links this season, Bonelli finished sixth, turning in a scorecard of an 86 while tallying five pars. Sophomore Kento Tomiyama (Lexington, Mass.) was three-over on the par threes as he fired a 94 while senior Chris Miller (Weymouth, Mass.) rounded out the Nighthawk golfers with a 113.
The Nighthawks return to the links this weekend when they travel to Bernardston, Mass. for the two-day, 2014 ECAC New England Championship Tournament held at Crumpin-Fox, Saturday October 11th and Sunday October 12th.
