Langston Stays Hot, Leads Nighthawks to 97-79 Win at Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. - Nighthawks senior Jeduan Langston (Roxbury, Mass.) stayed hot, leading the Nighthawks with 34 points on 13-for-18 shooting while grabbing eight as the Newbury Nighthawks defeated the Wheelock Wildcats 97-79 on Saturday afternoon from Winsor Courts in New England Collegiate Conference action.

Langston has scored 70 points in his last two games, coming off a career-high 36 points on Thursday against Becker. Freshman Miguel Rivera (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting in 34 minutes. Senior Daivon Edwards (Roxbury, Mass.) added 14 points.

Wildcats senior Kiwane Crowder (Milwaukee, Wis.) led Wheelock with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Dejuan Rodriguez (New Britain, Conn.) added 21 points and 13 rebounds while junior Kadeem Apply (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) added 17 points in 26 minutes off the bench.

The Nighthawks controlled early, opening the game on a 21-9 run including nine points from Rivera. The Nighthawks led by as many as 18 in the first half as they reached halftime with a 51-37 lead.

A Wildcats 10-2 run to open the second half got Wheelock within six at 53-47 but the Nighthawks were quick to answer with an 8-0 run, widening their advantage back to 14 points. The Nighthawks then embarked on an 18-9 run that widened their lead to 80-58. The Wildcats closed to within 11 but the Nighthawks held off the Wildcats in the final three minutes for a 97-79 win.

The victory moves the Nighthawks to 3-11 (2-4 NECC) while the loss drops the Wildcats to 2-14 (1-5 NECC).

Next for the Nighthawks is a rescheduled game against Vermont Tech set to take place on Monday at Pappas Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
