Nighthawks Ace Travers Earns Spot on All-Conference Third Team

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - In his final season, Nighthawks senior pitcher Mark Travers (Norwood, Mass.) earned his way on to the All-New England Collegiate Conference Third Team, as announced by the NECC Office on Tuesday morning and voted on by the coaches of the NECC.

Travers, who spent his first three seasons as a reliever for Newbury, had a career season as the pitching staff's ace in 2019.

In NECC play this season, Travers led the conference in innings pitched, complete games, and batters faced while ranking second in starts. Over the entire season, Travers ERA of 3.81 was not just a career-best, but also ranked sixth-lowest in the conference among qualified players.

Putting more perspective on just how impressive his season was, Travers entered his final year having pitched 18.1 career innings with an ERA of 15.71 through his first three seasons. But in his final year, Travers nearly tripled his career innings with 54.1 innings pitched, while holding an ERA of 3.81, cutting his career average to 6.72.
