BROOKLINE, Mass. - Newbury College Director of Athletics Jonathan Harper announced today the hiring of Brad Fogel as Head Baseball Coach. Fogel comes to Newbury after serving as an assistant with Curry College's baseball program for the last four seasons. He will begin his term with the Nighthawks starting October 15.
Fogel has nearly 20 years of baseball experience, dating back to the early-2000s in Southern California when he was a member of the nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific University baseball team.
In his four seasons with Curry, Fogel served primarily as a hitting coach, infield coach, and fundraising and recruiting coordinator. The Colonels won 62 games with Fogel on staff and produced multiple All-Commonwealth Coast Conference and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference players in that same time.
"I am honored and beyond excited to lead the Newbury College baseball program as the next head coach," said Fogel. "I would like to thank President Joseph Chillo and Athletic Director Jonathan Harper for this tremendous opportunity."
Along with his experience in coaching college baseball, Fogel has spent time as Head Coach for the 16U and 18U South Shore Spartans AAU team and a hitting coach for the 17U Northeast Garciaparra Baseball Group Hawks.
"I am eager to begin working with highly motivated and passionate student-athletes who want to be a part of a baseball culture with high expectations on the field, in the classroom and in their communities," said Fogel. "To join the Newbury College baseball family and represent this program, our alumni, and the college is an honor I am privileged to accept."
Fogel takes over a Nighthawks program that finished 12-23 last season and is looking to return to the Postseason for the first time since 2012. With New England College and Eastern Nazarene College joining the conference, the New England Collegiate Conference Baseball Playoffs will expand to six teams in 2019.
"We a fortunate to have the opportunity to bring Coach Fogel on board as our next Head Baseball Coach," said Harper. "He is a student of the game and is passionate about recruiting high-level student-athletes as proved by his four seasons at Curry College. Coach Fogel understands the landscape of Division III baseball in New England and I am looking forward to working with him to take our baseball program to the next level."
