GAME ONE: Lesley 11 - Newbury 2

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The Lynx offense was quiet until a five-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth inning, as the Lesley Lynx took the first game of the afternoon over the Newbury Nighthawks 11-2 on Saturday from the New England Baseball Complex.

Lynx junior Nicholas Ferragine (Randolph, N.J.) batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Junior Ryan Pumphret (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished 2-for-4 including a two-run home run in the fourth.

Nighthawks junior David Center (Medford, Mass.) finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Senior Matthew Peluso (Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada) also batted 2-for-3.

The Nighthawks were out to a 1-0 lead on a Center triple in the first inning. The Nighthawks doubled the lead in the third with an RBI single from Center.

In the fourth, Pumphret tied the game on a two-run home run to left-center field. A trio of RBI singles later in the inning would give the Lynx a 5-2 lead.

In the fifth, the Lynx loaded the bases with one out and freshman Chris Papallo (Southbury, Conn.) singled, scoring a pair to give the Lynx a 7-2 lead. Two RBI singles later in the fifth would give the Lynx a 9-2 lead.

Lesley added two more in the seventh in the 11-2 win.

Lynx senior Tom Muratore (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) picked up the win, improving to 6-0 this year. Nighthawks senior Jim McGrorry (Oakhurst, N.J.) takes the loss, falling to 4-3.

GAME TWO: Newbury 4 - Lesley 2

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Nighthawks seniors Matthew Peluso (Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada) and Mitchell Walsh (Westport, Mass.) both went deep with a pair of two-run home runs, providing all the offense the Nighthawks needed in their 4-2 win against the Lesley Lynx.

Walsh and Peluso both batted 2-for-3 including their home runs. Freshman Javi Martinez (Saugus, Mass.) also finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. The two-hit game for Peluso leaves him at 99 career hits.

Lynx Junior Ryan Pumphret (Shrewsbury, Mass.) batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Lynx were out to a 2-0 lead after a Pumphret double to left-center field. The Lynx finished the inning with two runs on two hits and would draw only one more hit off Nighthawks senior Jake Pringle (Acushnet, Mass.) until the seventh.

In the second, Peluso stepped in and hit his second home run of the season, tying the game at 2-2.

In the fourth, Center provided the two-run shot, nearly identical to Peluso's home run, giving the Nighthawks a 4-2 lead.

The Lynx had their chance in the seventh with two runners on in scoring position and one out. A Pringle strikeout, his fourth of the game, would be the second out. Lesley's last chance was a groundout to short as the Nighthawks handed the Lynx their first in conference loss of the season.

The two-game split moves the Nighthawks to 8-16 (3-7 NECC) while the Lynx sit at 14-5 (6-1 NECC).

The end of the series comes tomorrow afternoon as the Lynx and Nighthawks meet again for NECC play.
