NORTHBORO, Mass. - Raiders sophomore Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) batted 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs leading the Rivier Raiders to a 15-10 win over the Newbury Nighthawks on Thursday evening from the New England Baseball Complex.

Raiders senior Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) also batted 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Junior Brett Iannazzo (Methuen, Mass.) finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Eric Maxfield (Lowell, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Nighthawks sophomore Justin Banks (Corona, Calif.) batted 3-for-3 including a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Senior Mitchell Walsh (Westport, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Javi Martinez (Saugus, Mass.) finished 1-for-3 including his second home run of the season.

The Raiders trailed 8-5 entering the top of the seventh but the Rivier offense exploded for eight runs. With the bases loaded and one out, back-to-back hit batters cut the Raiders deficit to 8-7. Then the Raiders two-out rally gave them full control.

After taking the lead on a two-run single, Ferdinand doubled to give Rivier a 10-8 lead. Thibault followed with another double, scoring a pair to give the Raiders a 12-8 lead. Two batters later, another double by junior David Pappalardo (Methuen, Mass.) would give the Raiders a 13-8 lead.

The Raiders added two more in the eighth and the Nighthawks ninth-inning rally ran out of momentum.

After the Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead, the Nighthawks responded in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Banks cleared the bases on a one-out double to cut the deficit to 4-3. Two batters later, junior David Center (Medford, Mass.) doubled, scoring Banks to tie the game at 4-4.

The Nighthawks grabbed the lead in the fourth on Martinez's three-run home run to right-center field, giving the Nighthawks a 7-5 lead.

Raiders freshman Zachery Rodrigues (Achusnet, Mass.) took the win, pitching six innings allowing four runs while striking out nine and improving to 2-0 this season. Nighthawks junior Mark Travers (Norwood, Mass.) takes the loss in his relief appearance, falling to 1-2 this season.

The Nighthawks return to play on Sunday with a doubleheader against Dean College at New England Baseball Complex, starting at 12:30 p.m.
