Katherine Frankowski Named Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Newbury College Director of Athletics Jonathan Harper announced today the hiring of Katherine Frankowski as Head Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach, effective August 15.

Frankowski has spent the last four years as Head Women's Volleyball Coach at New England Collegiate Conference rival, Mitchell College, where the Mariners made the NECC Postseason in two of her four seasons.

Her responsibilities for the Mariners included developing practice plans, scheduling, and recruiting for women's volleyball, as well as game management, supervision of study hall and gym hours, and game day operations for the Mariners other 13 NCAA Division III sports.

"Being named the head coach to take over the men's and women's programs at Newbury is a very exciting moment," said Frankowski. "I want to thank Mr. Harper and the rest of the athletic staff for welcoming me into the community and giving me the opportunity to move these two programs into the future."

Frankowski's experience in Division III coaching goes back to 2010 as an assistant coach for Plymouth State University. Since that time, Frankowski has spent time coaching at the high school, club, and Division III levels.

"I am pleased to welcome Coach Frankowski to campus as the leader of our Men's and Women's Volleyball programs," said Harper. "Kathy brings valuable knowledge and experience from coaching in the NECC.  I am looking forward to her high level of passion for volleyball to translate into a high performing team on the court."

As a student-athlete, Frankowski played four seasons at Plymouth State University, joining the team as an outside hitter before moving to defensive specialist as a sophomore. Frankowski finished her career with 204 kills, 234 aces, and 939 digs. The 234 service aces rank third all-time in Panthers history.

Frankowski and the Panthers made an appearance in all four of her seasons in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Postseason, including claiming the ECAC Championship as a junior.

"I am ready and thoroughly excited to be part of Newbury," said Frankowski. "We will bring higher level volleyball to the Nighthawks!"

Frankowski graduated from Plymouth State with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. She is currently seeking a Masters of Education in Physical Education, concentrated in Athletic Administration from Plymouth State with an anticipated graduation date in December.
