Nighthawks freshman Kobe Barnes (Hartford, Conn.) broke through in a big way on Saturday at Southern Vermont, resulting in his first career Nighthawk of the Week Award, for the week ending on Sept. 23.

Barnes scored a pair of breakaway goals for the Nighthawks in the 6-0 rout of the Southern Vermont Mountaineers. His first career goal came in the 15th minute, sliding a shot under the Mountaineers keeper, giving the Nighthawks a 2-0 lead. 

Barnes struck again in the 43rd minute, sliding a ball to the goalie's right side on this occassion, giving the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead. Barnes added an assist on the next goal in the 59th minute, which gave the Nighthawks a 4-0 lead at that point.

Barnes now sits at two goals and one assist for five points in his freshman year.

The Nighthawks return to play on Wednesday, Sept. 26 for a 3:00 p.m. match vs. Fitchburg State at Hormel Stadium.
