NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Nighthawks Women's Cross Country team won their second consecutive meet on Saturday, winning the Mitchell 5k by two points over Mitchell. Newbury's total team time would also better Mitchell by just one second.
The Nighthawks would account for four of the top ten times in the race.
Junior Samantha Libby (New Gloucester, Maine) finished fifth individually for the Nighthaws, handing in a time of 25:02.16. Teammate Destiny Spears (Annapolis, Md.) finished right behind Libby, in sixth, running her 5k in 25:03.94. Junior Naomi Ricciotti (Pheonix, Ariz.) finished eighth with a time of 25:36.49. Sophomore Christina Babcock (Shirley, Mass.) would round out the top ten with a time of 28:51.94.
Wheelock's Emma Wilson won the meet with a 5k time of 21:19.23. Her time was over two minutes better than the second place time, ran by Mitchell's Kathryn McCormack.
The Nighthawks will look for a third straight meet win next Saturday in the Chicopee Memorial State Park Race.
