Thomas Medals At Eagle Invitational
The Newbury College women's cross country team placed second, of six teams, behind conference foe Wheelock College at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Daniel Webster College on Friday September 17th.
Sophomore Solange Thomas (Webster, MA/Bartlett) was the women's medalist, of the 39 runner field, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:10. Thomas finished 1:03 ahead of New Hampshire Technical Institute's Samantha Provencher. Newbury had two runners finish in the top 10, freshman Jennifer Lewis (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) placed ninth with a time of 24:58.
Senior Kerri-Leigh Palmer (Melrose, MA/Melrose) and freshman Hannah Weiner (Barrington, RI/Barrington) cracked the top 20 placing 16th and 20th, respectively. Palmer finished with a time of 26:46 while Weiner came in at 27:47. Junior Kayla Grady (Barrington, RI/Barrington) rounded out the Nighthawk women with a time of 32:46.
On the men's side, junior Ryan Maliff (Ashfield, MA/Mohawk Trail Regional) finished in fourth place with a time of 37:07. Teammate freshman John Morgan (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) crossed the finish line 13 seconds after Maliff at 37:20 to finish the 5.62 mile race in sixth place. Sophomore Jarryl McKey (Brooklyn, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) rounded out the Nighthawk runners finishing 20th at 42:07.
Newbury returns to the course Saturday September 25th at the Elms College Invitational at 11:00 am for the women and 12:00pm for the men.
