Brookline, MA -- The Newbury Nighthawks dropped a NECC matchup with the Dean College Bulldogs Saturday afternoon, 3 sets to 1. With the lose the Nighthawks fall to 2-21 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 10-12.
Newbury took the first set 25-23 but it was all Bulldogs from that point forward as the closed out the final three sets, 14-25, 19-25 and 19-25 respectively.
First-year Stephanie Rheaume (Hampton, New Hampshire) and seniors Julia Leggett (Longview, Washington) and Marlen Reynoso (Springdale, Arkansas) put in strong performances for Newbury. Prior to today's contest, Reynoso and Leggett were honor in their last regular season home contest in their careers.
Rheaume finished with 14 kills, 11 digs, and one assist. She also recorded four service aces on the afternoon.
Reynoso added four kills of her own to go along with 14 digs and a team-high 20 assists. Leggett capped off her senior day outing with five kills, three assists, and 16 digs. First-year Maria Vanegas (East Boston, Massachusetts) also added 13 digs for the Nighthawks.
For Dean, Aminah Tsonga (Plainville, Connecticut) led the way with 22 kills, 10 digs, and three assists. The first-year also recorded three service aces.
Kaitlyn Anderson (Clinton, Connecticut) has contributed heavily to the Bulldog victory, finishing with 12 kills, 10 digs, and two service aces.
Sami Mulcahy (Taunton, Massachusetts) added 24 digs while Melanie Rio-Nevarez (Vega Atla, Puerto Rico) dished out 38 assists, nine digs, and four kills.
The Bulldogs of Dean College will return to action Monday, October 23rd when they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Acadamy. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Nighthawks are back on the court on Wednesday, October 25 when they travel to Mitchell College. The NECC matchup is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
