Fish Garners NECC Accolades in Week One
Freshman Sydney Fish (Kalamazoo, Mich.) earned New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Newbury College women's volleyball program go 2-1 at the Gordon Invitational in Wenham, Mass.
After registering a team-high 11 kills in the opener against conference foe Bay Path College, Fish recorded an impressive hitting percentage of .357 in the four team tournament. The Michigan native middle blocker finished the day with 25 kills, 12 service aces, three solo blocks and one block assist, helping the Nighthawks to two 3-1 victories against Bay Path and Framingham State.
Through three games this season, Fish's .357 hitting percentage ranks her first in the conference - three percentage points higher than the the NECC Player of the Week, Southern Vermont junior middle blocker Danielle Healis. In addition her 25 kills tie her for second with classmate Lauren Watson, behind only sophomore Jessy Touron's 29.
