Rams Hold Off Nighthawks
The Newbury College women’s volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Suffolk University, 3-0, on Thursday evening. Before the match, the Nighthawks honored seniors Amy Chen (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Kerri McAuley (Middleboro, Mass./Sacred Heart) for their four years of dedication to the volleyball program.
After falling into the 0-2 hole to begin the contest, Newbury jumped out to an early lead in the third set. Freshman Jessy Touron (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) tallied four of her game-high seven kills in game three while sophomore Stephanie Williams (Medford, Mass./Medford) recorded two service aces and a block in the comeback attempt. But the Nighthawks could not hold off the Rams.
Suffolk freshman Maggie Hillman (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) was an integral part to the three game match sweep, tying Touron with a game-high seven kills. Senior Kelly Loder (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) played a solid game following up Hillman, tallying five kills while recording a block and an ace.
With the loss, Newbury falls to 8-16 on the season while Suffolk improves to 13-17. The Nighthawks will return to the court for their final game of the regular season on Saturday October 30th when they travel to Leominster, Mass. for a conference tri-match against Becker College and Mitchell College.
