Salve Regina Volleyball Sweeps Newbury, 3-0
NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) recorded a match-high 12 kills to lead the Salve Regina University volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Newbury College in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Classmate Brittany Canaff (Paramus, N.J.) added nine kills and nine digs for the Seahawks, who snapped a four-match losing streak and improved to 6-12 on the season. Sophomore Tricia Corriveau and freshman Stephanie Williams (Medford, Mass.) each tallied four kills for the Nighthawks, who dropped to 6-4.
The Seahawks rolled to a 25-15 win in game one behind six kills from Salter and three from junior Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.). Corriveau notched four digs for Newbury.
In the second game, Salter and Canaff each recorded four kills while Rubenoff added three and freshman Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) had four digs en route to a 25-13 win. Corriveau, Williams, and junior Kerri McAuley (Middleboro, Mass.) each had two kills for the Nighthawks.
The Seahawks closed the match with a 25-16 win behind the strength of four kills from sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) and three each from Canaff and sophomore Jill Crouch (East Hampton, Conn.).
"This was a good, overall team effort," said head coach Jen Maxwell. "Deanna and Brittany played well for us. Everyone was able to play and contribute tonight."
Junior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.) recorded a match-high 18 assists while Salter's 10 digs were also a game-high. Freshman Regina Sibilia (Ahawam, Mass.) posted 12 assists for Newbury.
The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they compete at the R.I.A.I.A.W Tournament at Rhode Island College, where they will face Johnson & Wales, the Anchorwomen, and Roger Williams. The Nighthawks travel to Simmons on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
