13 Student-Athletes Earn Fall Academic All-Conference
A total of 13 Newbury College fall student-athletes were named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference for the 2010 fall semester, announced yesterday by conference commissioner Del Malloy. Women’s soccer headlined the seven fall sports teams with five named Academic All Conference while women’s volleyball followed up with four. Women’s cross country, men’s soccer and women’s tennis were also represented.

All five New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) womens tennis programs were represented on the 2010 All-NECC Womens Tennis Team and NECC major awards, announced on Monday by Commissioner Del Malloy.

Ruffin, MacLeod Flight Three Doubles Champions
As the #4 seed, sophomore Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, NY) and freshman Stephanie Ruffin (Waltham, Mass.) knocked off the higher seeds to claim the doubles Third Flight Championship at the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday.

Nighthawks Drop Regular Season Finale To Beacons
The Newbury College women’s tennis team fell to UMass-Boston, 8-1, in their last regular season contest. Before the match, the Nighthawks honored senior Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, Conn./Saint Paul Catholic) for her outstanding contributions to the women’s tennis program and Newbury athletics, over her four year career. Valentine picked up Newbury’s lone win defeating UMass-Boston senior Brittany Engel (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) in third singles.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouths womens tennis team didn't lose a set in defeating visiting Newbury, 9-0, in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Monday.

Becker Defeats Newbury in NECC Action
The Becker College womens tennis team defeated Newbury College, 8-1, Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, MA. Seniors Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, CT) and Lianna Woodbury (Southe Dennis, MA) and juniors Megan Nessen (Levittown, PA) and Shauna McNally (Worcester, MA) each picked up two wins on the day for the Hawks.

The Newbury College womens tennis team defeated conference foe Mitchell College, 7-2, Thursday afternoon at the Mitchell College Tennis Courts. Alex Derderian (North Providence, R.I.), Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Stephanie Ruffin (Waltham, Mass.) each secured wins in both doubles and singles action to lead the Newbury charge

Nighthawks Fall To Wildcats
The Newbury College womens tennis team fell to Bay Path College, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Nighthawks to 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in the conference while the Wildcats improve to 6-1 and 4-1 in the NECC. Sophomore Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, NY/Frontier) was solid in the singles competition for Newbury, forcing a third set, winning the second set 7-5

The Newbury College womens tennis team defeated Mitchell College, 8-1, Saturday afternoon. Junior Kristen Conners (Riverside, RI/East Providence) and senior Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, CT/Saint Paul Catholic) led the Nighthawks to their sixth overall victory against the Mariners.

Lynx Edge Past Nighthawks, 5-4
Newbury College junior Kristen Conners (Riverside, RI/East Providence) forced a third set against Lynx senior Michelle Side (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) in a tight conference contest with Lesley University. Staving off a comeback, Side took set three 6-4 as the Lynx picked up their first conference win and second overall with the 5-4 victory.

Nigthawks Fall To Lancers In Season Opener
The Newbury College womens tennis team fell to Worcester State University, 6-3, in their 2010 season opener. Senior Ashley Perkins (Worcester, MA/Doherty) led the way to victory winning both her singles and doubles completion for the Lancers. Sophomores Alex Derderian (North Providence, RI/North Providence and Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) paired up to win second doubles, 8-2.
