Lions Defeat Nighthawks

The Newbury College women's tennis team was defeated today by the visiting Lions of Emerson College by a score of 8-1, bringing their overall record to an even 2-2.  Junior captain Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, CT/St. Paul Catholic) scored the lone Nighthawk point of the match defeating Emerson's Kailey Smith (Madison, ME/Madison) in the #4 singles spot by scores of 2-6, 6-4, and 10-2.

The Lions swept doubles play by scores of 8-2, 8-3, and 8-5, respectively highlighted by a stellar performance by senior Kayleigh Holt (Somerset, MA/Somerset) in #1 doubles.  Holt also took down Newbury's ace Jillian Wojtowicz (Palmer, MA/Palmer) in the #1 singles match with set scores of 1-6 and 0-6.

The Nighthawks travel to Lesley University for their first New England Collegiate Conference match of the season on Saturday, September 19^th.  Introductions begin at noon.
