Wildcats Claw Nighthawks 8-1 in NECC Womens Tennis Action
LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path College ground the
Nighthawks of Newbury College 8-1 in New England Collegiate
Conference women's tennis action today . Bay Path opened up taking
all three doubles matches to grab the early lead for the
Wildcats.
In the #1 spot senior duo Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.) and
Kara Fox (Biddeford, Maine) teamed up for an 8-4 win over the
Nighthawk senior Jillian Wojtowicz (Palmer, Mass.) and her
sophomore partner Kristen Connors (Riverside, R.I.). In the two
spot, the tandem of senior Cristina Ruiz (Waterbury, Conn.) and
sophomore Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) easily won 8-2 over freshman
Alex Derderian (North Providence, R.I) and junior Stephanie
Valentine (Pleasant Valley, Conn.). Finally in the #3 doubles
flight sophomore Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) and junior Carolina
Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) downed freshmen Jennifer
Swafford (Merrimack, N.H.) and Lisa Velez (Cambridge, Mass.)
8-6.
Bay Path took all the singles matches except the #5 spot where
Swafford proved victorious over Loveitt winning 6-1, 6-1 for the
Nighthawks lone point for the match
In the #1 flight Bendzin won 6-1, 6-1, while Ynguanzo also won 6-4,
6-4 in the #4 flight. In the #2 flight Ruiz put up a fight winning
7-5, 6-4. In the # 3 flight Costa won by Derderian retiring
after a 4-2 first set. Fox rounded out the wins at the #6
spot defeating Velez 7-5, 6-1.
Bay Path advances to a 6-2 overall record and 3-1 in the NECC,
while Newbury falls to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference
play. The Wildcats will be back on the road facing NECC rival
Becker this Saturday October 3rd at 1:00 p.m. start. Newbury will
host Lesley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
