Monteiro Named Head Tennis Coach
Jacquelina Monteiro enters her first season as head tennis coach for the Nighthawk men's and women's tennis teams. Monteiro was a 2005 graduate of Newbury College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. In addition to her coursework, she was a four-year member of the women's tennis team.

Newbury Earns NECC Tennis Honors
The 2009 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament concluded yesterday at the Enfield Tennis Club in Enfield, Connecticut hosted by Bay Path. The championships were an individual flighted tournament that was based upon student-athletes' singles and doubles conference records. Players were seeded as individual players while seeds were not based on a team's finish.

Nighthawks Receive NECC Sportsmanship Award, Conners Honorable Mention
ATTLEBORO, Mass.- Four out of the five New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s tennis programs were represented on the 2009 All-NECC Women’s Tennis Team and NECC major awards, announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. The Newbury College Nighthawks led by first year head coach Jeremy Glenn were named the 2009 NECC Women’s Tennis Team Sportsmanship recipients. The Nighthawks finished third in the conference standings with a 4-4 overall record and are 7-8 overall for the 2009 campaign. Four student-athletes received honorable mention including; Newbury’s sophomore Kristen Conners (Riverside, R.I.).

Nighthawks Lift Wojtowicz on Senior Day
The Newbury College women’s tennis team defeated visiting NECC opponent Lesley University today in Chestnut Hill, MA by a score of 8-1. The match marked the final home contest of senior Jillian Wojtowicz’s (Palmer, MA/Palmer) career finishing with a total of eight singles and 12 doubles victories. With the victory, the Nighthawks improve to 7-8 on the season and an even conference record of 4-4.

Bay Path Sneaks By Nighthawks
The Wildcats of Bay Path College clawed their way to a solid 6-3 victory over host Newbury College in an important New England College match up in Chestnut Hill today. This improved their record to an impressive 9-2 overall, and 6-1 in the conference. Kristen Conners (Riverside, RI/East Providence) and (Jen Swafford Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) were victorious in their singles play, while Alexandra Derderian (North Providence, RI / North Providence) and Swafford were again successful in their doubles match.

Newbury Defeats Mitchell
The Newbury College women’s tennis team defeated the visiting New England Collegiate Conference foe Mitchell College by a score of 6-3, this afternoon in Chestnut Hill, MA. This is the Nighthawks’ second straight win over the Mariners this season, improving their record to 6-7, (3-3 NECC) on the season. Alexandra Derderian (North Providence, RI / North Providence), Jen Swafford (Merrimack, NH / Merrimack) and Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, CT / St. Paul Catholic) led the way for the Nighthawks as each was victorious in their doubles and singles match.

Saints Defeat Nighthawks in Women’s Tennis Action
The Newbury College women’s tennis team lost a non-conference match today to visiting Emmanuel College by a score of 8-1. Nighthawk freshman Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) continued to shine collecting the sole Newbury victory in the third singles spot. Doubles action began with competitive matches across the board as players in both first and second doubles battled for their respective leads. Newbury’s Kristen Connors (Riverside, RI/East Providence) and Jillian Wojtowicz (Palmer, MA/Palmer) came out strong with some fierce rallies but could not capitalize in the latter portion of the match.

Wildcats Claw Nighthawks 8-1 in NECC Women’s Tennis Action
LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path College ground the Nighthawks of Newbury College 8-1 in New England Collegiate Conference women’s tennis action today . Bay Path opened up taking all three doubles matches to grab the early lead for the Wildcats. Bay Path took all the singles matches except the #5 spot where Jennifer Swafford proved victorious over Loveitt winning 6-1, 6-1 for the Nighthawks lone point for the match.

Newbury Falls to Becker in Women’s Tennis Action
The Newbury College women’s tennis team lost a conference match today to visiting Becker College by a score of 7-2. Nighthawk freshman Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) continued to shine with a sweep on the day as she was victorious in both third doubles and fifth singles play. Junior Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, CT/Saint Paul Catholic) fought hard for the Nighthawks in fourth singles, but lost in set scores of 7-6 and 6-4 while Swafford defeated her opponent 6-2 and 6-1.

Swafford Earns NECC Rookie Honors
Newbury College freshman Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, N.H.) helped her team to a 5-4 victory over NECC newcomer Lesley. Swafford went 1-1 in #4 singles action defeating Nicole Smith 6-4, 4-6 (6-3) in tie-breaker action taking the final point edging the Lynx.

The Newbury College women’s tennis team defeated the visiting Lions of Eastern Nazarene College by a score of 8-1, this afternoon in Chestnut Hill, MA. This is the Nighthawks second straight win and has improved their record to 4-2 on the season.

The Newbury College women’s tennis team was defeated today by the visiting Lions of Emerson College by a score of 8-1, bringing their overall record to an even 2-2. Junior captain Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, CT/St. Paul Catholic) scored the lone Nighthawk point of the match defeating Emerson’s Kailey Smith (Madison, ME/Madison) in the #4 singles spot by scores of 2-6, 6-4, and 10-2.

BOSTON, MA – The University of Massachusetts Boston women’s tennis team gained its first victory of the season with an 8-1 decision over visiting Newbury College today in a match that was played on the Boston College High School courts. The Beacons improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Nighthawks fall to 1-1.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Newbury College junior Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, Conn.) led her team to a 1-0 opening week. Valentine notched a 6-2, 7-6 (4) tie break win at the #5 singles position to edge the Nighthawks to a 5-4 victory over Worcester State.

Newbury Edges Worcester State in Opener
Worcester, MA --- Freshman Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, NH) won the fifth singles while she also teamed with classmate Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, NY) to win third doubles as she helped lead Newbury to a 5-4 victory this afternoon over Worcester State College in women’s tennis action. The contest opened with the Nighthawks taking first, second and fifth singles with victories by senior Jillian Wojtowicz (Palmer, MA), Kristen Conners (Riverside, RI) and Swafford.
