Tomaselli Registers 20th, 21st Goals In 8-1 Victory
Freshman Krista Toney (Broken Arrow, OK/Union) registered her fifth and sixth goals of the season to cap off Newbury's fourth conference win, defeating Wheelock College, 8-1, Monday afternoon. The Nighthawks improve to 4-2-1 in the conference and 6-7-2 overall while the Wildcats fall to 0-6 in the NECC and 0-14 overall.
The Nighthawks began the game with four unanswered goals before the Wildcats got on the scoreboard. Junior Jessica Graus (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) recorded her 10th career goal two minutes into the contest, off a corner kick by senior Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, Mass./Brockton). Two minutes later, freshman Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) scored her 20th goal of the season, and ultimate game-winner, on Greene-Allen's second assist.
Greene-Allen added to her two assists in the 18th minute. On a pass from Toney, the Brockton senior scored on an open net after Wheelock goalkeeper junior Alexandra Chiesa (Medford, Mass./Medford) left the goal vacant.
The Wildcats broke up the Nighthawk shut-out mid-way through the first half. Junior Adriana Perry (Holbrook, Mass./South Shore Charter) put Wheelock on the board, sneaking the ball past Newbury goalkeeper Jennifer Anderson (Palmer, Mass./Pathfinder Regional) in the 27th minute.
But Anderson atoned for the goal in the second period. With less than 20 minutes left in the game, Anderson registered her first goal of the season as she slipped the ball by Chiesa on a pass from freshman Alishya Anselmo (Fall River, Mass./Bishop Connelly).
The Nighthawks return to the pitch for a non-conference game at Emerson on Wednesday October 27th at 7:30pm. Their next home game will be Saturday October 30th against Lesley University.
