Nighthawks Split Soccer Double-header, Fall to Lynx, 4-0
The Newbury College women’s soccer team fell to Lesley University, 4-0, in the second game of the men’s-women’s double-header, Saturday afternoon. It was the Nighthawks last contest of the regular season and before the game they honored senior Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) for her four years of dedication to the program.
Lesley freshman Jackee Sanchez (Fair Oaks Ranch, Ca./Golden Valley) sparked the Lynx offense scoring the game winner seven minutes into the contest. From six yards out, Sanchez lined a rope past Nighthawk goalkeeper, freshman Kimberly Bibby (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) on a pass from sophomore Jamie Coyne (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Feehan).
Towards the end of the half, sophomore Katherine Bradley (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) connected with junior Jenna Fralick (Woburn, Mass. Woburn) for the game’s second goal. Mid-way through the second period, Fralick gave Lesley a three-score cushion netting her second goal of the contest on a pass from fellow junior Emma Fogg (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley).
Despite the loss, junior Rachel Wyszynski (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) was solid in net for the Nighthawks registering five saves in 66 minutes.
Newbury falls to 6-9-2 and 4-3-1 in the conference while Lesley remains undefeated in the conference at 7-0-1 and improve to 11-5-2 overall.
