Nighthawks Late Rally Falls Short
Nashua, N.H. – The Newbury College women’s soccer team’s late rally was not enough to overcome Daniel Webster College as the Eagles defeated the Nighthawks 3-2 in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Tuesday at Eagle Field. Junior Kacie Lang (Raymond, N.H.) had a goal and an assist to lead Daniel Webster to the victory.
A corner kick by TC DiSantis (Hinsdale, Mass.) set up the Eagles first goal of the day as Lang was able to put the ball past Newbury’s goalie 19 minutes into play.
Two minutes later, a pass from Lang set up a score by Alexa Quintiliani (Manchester, Conn.) to put the Eagles up 2-0 at the half.
Jennifer Trombley (Rutland, Vt.) netted Daniel Webster’s third and final goal of the day when she scored on a pass from DiSantis at the 54-minute mark.
The Eagles got a scare during the last ten minutes of the game as Newbury freshman Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I.) was able to score twice to bring the Nighthawks within one goal of Daniel Webster.
Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) was superb in the contest making six stops for Daniel Webster, including a spectacular diving save on a Newbury penalty kick by Jessica Graus (Rochester, N.Y.) in the 70th minute.
Newbury’s Rachel Wyszynski (Wilbraham, Mass.) had two saves in 41 minutes while Jasmine James (Wellesley, Mass.) recorded three saves in 45 minutes for the Nighthawks.
With this victory, the Eagles improve to 4-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in NECC play. The Nighthawks now have an overall record of 4-7-2 and a 2-2-1 record in NECC matchups.
Newbury returns to the pitch on Saturday September 23rd when they host Southern Vermont Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
