Guy, Graus Combo Lifts Nighthawks to Victory
The Newbury College women's soccer team defeated the Wildcats of Bay Path College, 4-0, Monday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, MA. Freshman Ashleigh Guy (North Smithfield, RI/North Smithfield) recorded her first collegiate hat trick scoring the Nighthawks final 3 goals.
The Nighthawks started the game off on the right foot putting offensive pressure on the Wildcats from the opening whistle, but Bay Path Goalie Samantha Gunseth (Monadnock /Swanzey, NH) made quality saves on each attempt. It was not until 32 minutes of play had gone by when the Nighthawks Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton/Brockton, MA) finally found the back of the net off a pass from Jessica Graus (Greece Arcadia/Rochester, NY ), to take the lead 1-0 into the half.
The second half brought much of the same offensive power for the Nighthawks, as Guy would score her first goal just 10 minutes in off another Graus assist. Just 8 minutes later Graus would again find Guy for her second goal of the game and put the Nighthawks up 3-0. The Nighthawks Nicole Garafalo (The Gilbert School/Winsted, CT) would help complete Guy's hat trick with just under 4 minutes left in the game, to secure the 4-0 win.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats keeper Gunseth would finish the game with 7 saves.
The Nighthawks return to action Wednesday October 28 for their final home game of the season against NECC opponent Lesley University. Newbury will be honoring lone Senior Jessica Jordan in a ceremony at halftime of the match, game time is set for 3:00pm.
