Nighthawks Fall to Becker on Rainy Senior Day

BOSTON, Mass. - Hawks junior Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) netted five goals on five shots, leading the way in goal-scoring and helping the Becker Hawks to a 19-2 victory over the Newbury Nighthawks on Saturday afternoon at The Winsor School on Senior Day. 

Hawks freshman Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, N.H.) added three goals and four assists. Sophomore Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman Samantha D'Auteuil (Columbia, Conn.) both scored twice. Junior Meghan Bealka (Freetown, Mass.) matched Nelson with four assists.

Nighthawks sophomore Isabelle Pafford (Greenland, N.H.) and freshman Angel Ortiz (Topsham, Maine) both scored for the Nighthawks. Pafford scored a man-down marking the first man-down goal in program history. Ortiz added a career-high seven ground balls, Pafford contributed four forced turnovers. Freshman Anastasia Meleo (Plymouth, Mass.) added a career-high six ground balls.

The Hawks were out quickly with nine straight goals in nearly 20 minutes of play. Turner completed a first half hat trick 12:28 into the game. Nelson added two in the opening 20 minutes for a 9-0 lead.

Pafford scored her 13th goal of the season while the Nighthawks were a man down, cutting into the deficit, now at 9-1.

Nelson, sophomore Rachel Adams (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman Emily Loud (Wilmington, Mass.) finished off the first half scoring for the Hawks, who led 12-1 at the half.

The Hawks started with five straight in the second half, including a pair of Turner goals, to lead 17-1.

Ortiz then answered for the Nighthawks with her third goal of the season for a 17-2 game.

Sophomore Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and D'Auteuil finished off the scoring in the game, resulting in the 19-2 final.

Storey started in goal for the Hawks, playing the first half and recording three saves in 30 minutes. She improves to 5-9 with the victory.

Nighthawks freshman Keely Molloy (Staten Island, N.Y.) made 15 saves for the Nighthawks, furthering her lead in the New England Collegiate Conference in saves.

One game remains for both teams in the 2017 season. Becker travels to Mass. Maritime on Monday for a non-conference game at 8:00 p.m. The Nighthawks stay in the NECC as they battle Regis College on Tuesday, the opening faceoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
