MEDFORD, Mass. - Mountaineers senior Lauren Nesshoever (Chittenden, Vt.) scored a season-high six goals, giving her 12 on the season, leading the Southern Vermont Mountaineers to a 23-0 victory over the Newbury Nighthawks on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference play at Hormel Stadium Facility.
The six goals are Nesshoever's second-most in her career, she scored eight last season vs. Elms in the NECC Quarterfinals. Sophomore Sophia Sorriento (Troy, N.Y.) added a career-high five goals, senior Emily Lesure (Cheshire, Mass.) scored four.
Nighthawks sophomore Gabriella Paolini (Sterling, Mass.) finished with three shots, two on-goal, and two ground balls. Sophomore Isabelle Pafford (Greenland, N.H.) also had two shots and a pair of ground balls. Freshman Anastasia Meleo (Plymouth, Mass.) added two ground balls for the Nighthawks defense.
Sorriento, Nesshoever, and Lesure combined for the first five goals of the afternoon, putting Southern Vermont ahead 5-0 in the opening four minutes.
Nesshoever and Sorriento finished their hat-tricks in the first half, with Nesshoever adding the fourth of her six tallies to close the scoring in the first half.
Mountaineers junior Kristiana Goldup (Schuylerville, N.Y.) picks up her first shutout this season, recording three saves and improving to 2-1 with a 4.67 GAA.
Nighthawks freshman goalie Keely Molloy (Staten Island, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots on the afternoon.
The Nighthawks travel to Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. contest with the University of St. Joseph, the Mountaineers carry on with their NECC schedule on Wednesday, traveling to Becker College for a 4:00 game.
