Newbury staved off a Wheelock comeback at the end of the half and went to the locker room with a six-point, 24-18 lead.
When the teams returned to the court for the second half, the Wildcats continued to keep pace before the Nighthawks began to pull away. Midway through the second half, Haney ignited a long, 16-6 run, lasting over seven minutes, to grab a 52-38 lead with just 6:16 left in the contest. Wheelock senior forward Kayla Drescher (Wallingford, Conn.) later canned a jumper to cut the deficit to 56-44 with four minutes remaining for the Wildcats, but the Nighthawks closed out the game scoring nine of the final 10 points, including seven from Marsh.
In addition to shooting 50% form the floor for a game-high 18 points, Marsh was the Nighthawks go-to player dishing out four assists while ripping down six boards and picking the pockets of Wildcats a game-high four times.
