Machado Earns National Recognition

Junior guard Morganna Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) garnered national recognition after she was named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week, following her career game-high 26 points against Becker College on December 11^th. Machado became the second Newbury women's basketball player to earn Team of the Week honors. Teammate Catherine O'Connell was the first player to earn the honor last season.

Machado helped the Nighthawks to 2-1 week with back-to-back victories against Rivier and Becker College, leading Newbury with 41 points over the course of three games. The third year guard from Attleboro was lights out from beyond the arc, hitting five of eight from long distance and closed out the week draining 21 of her 26 points in the second half. Earlier in the week she registered double figures against Rivier College, netting 11 on the Raiders in 25 minutes on the court.

Against Lesley, Rivier and Becker, Machado shot 44.4% from three-point range and 72.2% from the charity stripe, knocking down 13 of 18 free throws.  In addition, she dished out a total of nine assists, registered three blocks and picked the pockets of the Raiders and Hawks twice.
