Newbury Falls To Lyndon State, 66-52
Beverly, Mass. – The Newbury College women’s basketball team fell to Lyndon State, 66-52, in the consolation game at the Endicott College Tip-Off Tournament, Saturday afternoon. Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) led the Hornets to victory registering a double-double tallying 21 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Lyndon State never trailed in the contest and built a ten point lead mid-way through the first half. Newbury trimmed the deficit to just five before heading into the locker room but failed to put together a large enough run to take the lead.
Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) tied Lawson recording 21 points for the Hornets in the victory as well as stretched a five point halftime lead into the seven point win by forcing 25 turnovers. Teammate senior guard Stephanie Barclay (Barre, Vt.) dished out six assists in the win.
Junior Shayla White (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Nighthawks with 15 points in the loss while sophomore Jalisa Fields (Bronx, N.Y.) also registered double figures tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds for Newbury.
With the win Lyndon State improves to 1-1 on the season while Newbury falls to 0-3. The Nighthawks will return to the hard-court after the Thanksgiving holiday when they are on the road against Albertus Magnus on November 29th at 7:00pm.
